Every year, the Sears Directors'
Cup is awarded to the top overall athletic program in the NCAA, as it has been
since the 1993-94 season. If you're not well aware of the cup's existence, you
can just ask Stanford students. You see, Stanford has won the award for six
straight years. In fact, their students will tell you that they've one every
Sears Cup in existence.
However, what they fail
to recognize, either consciously or unconsciously, is that the first ever Sears
Cup resides right here in Chapel Hill. And you know what? I think our baby may
be coming back home after a 6-year West Coast journey. That's right, look at
how your fall sports are doing, fellow Tar Heels.
I could rant on about all
our teams' successes and runs at national championships, but it's Sunday night,
and the true procrastinator has a lot of work to do. So if you don't already
know about the team's accomplishments, pay attention, because some of our fellow
students are representing this school in incredible ways.
It's a great time to be
at Carolina, not just because of the turning leaves and the brisk fall weather
that glorify our breathtaking campus. Our teams give us a lot to cheer for and
be proud of. And at the end of the year, a shiny crystal trophy will make us
even prouder to be Tar Heels, if that's even possible.
