Research Interests
I am interested in the use of GPS, GIS, and remote sensing technologies to examine the interaction of populations with their environment. My focus area is the Ecuadorian Amazon, or Oriente. I am currently examining questions predominately related to land use and land cover change in the Oriente. Research projects include modeling land use and land cover change in the Ecuadorian Amazon at the farm level using socioeconomic/demographic, biophysical, and geographic variables to predict patterns of land cover change (forest? non-forest vegetation as well as non-forest ? forest), examining the effects communities in the Ecuadorian Amazon have on the landscape around them, and determining the relationship of accessibility to choices about contraception and birth services.
