Health & Fitness Among College Women

Introduction
Many college students were active in high school playing sports, cheerleading
or marching in the band. But, most of time these activities do not carry over
to thier college careers. Inactivity, fast food and binge drinking can lead to the
so-called "Freshman 15". Although college men and women can experience the
"Freshman 15", females are more likely to put on the extra pounds.

College is also a time when life-long habits have the possibility of forming.
It is far better to form beneficial habits such as healthy eating and exercising
rather than smoking, binge drinking and overeating. Therefore, college women
need to take care of their bodies, not only to prevent the "Freshman 15", but
also to build a strong body that they will have to live with for the rest of their lives.

Losing Weight Over the Internet

With the dawn of 2002, many people have made New Year's resolutions to lose weight, get into shape and/or watch their diet. Some people buy books on dieting and weight-loss while others go to a gym or hire a personal trainer. But, with the popularity and easy-accessibility of the Internet growing each day, many people turn to the Web for diet and exercise plans.

An increasing number of banner ads are appearing promoting sites like eDiets.com and dietwatch.com claiming you can lose X number of pounds in X amount of time. While sites of this nature might work for some, others might find it hard to "lose weight over

Some Websites, however, do provide interesting and insightful tools to aid in fitness and nutrition such as Fitday.com. It also breaks down the fats, proteins and carbohydrates eaten in a day in a colorful and easy-to-read pie chart. Fitday.com also provides inspiration and motivation for those people who can't get out of couch potato mode.

Still, health magazine sites offer useful information on nutritious eating and healthy lifestyles, and buying a subscription isn't necessary. Self magazine and Shape magazine both have easy-to-navigate sites packed with easy exercises that can be done in the comfort of one's home or office. These magazine sites also provide health calculators weight based on the information one has given them. These tools can also calculate target heartrates and how much of each food group and type one should consume each day.

Other, more general Websites have great health pages that supply the reader with adequate data on becoming more health-conscious. Ivillage.com contains practical information on diet and exercise with a special section for pregnant women or those planning on becoming pregnant. So, whether you join a gym, buy a book or sign up with a diet plan over the Internet, there are plenty of helpful and accurate electronic resources out their to help even the laziest of couch potatoes get moving their way to a healthier 2002 and a happier life.
