Hello, welcome to my home in Cyberspace!
Thanks for stopping in! My name is Jon Cox and I am a junior Journalism
major at the University of North Carolina
at Chapel Hill. Located in the village of Chapel Hill,
this university is the oldest public university in the nation. Called the
Tarheels, we are known for our sports
programs, namely basketball. The campus is surrounded by large oak trees,
beautiful quads and a rich history of folklore. We have had numerous well-known
graduates including Mia Hamm, Charles Kuralt and President James K. Polk.
Of course, almost everyone has probably heard of our most famous graduate,
Michael Jordan, and his coach Dean Smith.
Below is a picture of one of our most popular campus icons,
the Old Well. Legend says if you drink water out of it on the first day
of classes during your freshman year, you will have a successful academic
career.
I try to be as involved as possible in campus life here at UNC. I am the
State & National editor at The Daily
Tar Heel, our student newspaper. The DTH is one of the premiere college
daily newspapers in the country and we have won numerous awards for our
work. I am also the alumni chair for my fraternity Alpha
Phi Omega.
In my spare time, I enjoy outdoor activities. I enjoy the normal sports,
baseball, basketball and football and also things that are a little different.
I love snow skiing and last summer, thanks to my good friend Jay Long,
I learned how to water ski. Last summer I also began working on my pilot's
license, and eventually I hope to be able to fly anywhere I want to go.
Next on my agenda, I would like to learn how to hang glide off Jockey's
Ridge on the Outer Banks of North Carolina.

N.C. on a camping trip where I learned to ski.
