      Duties include managing a desk of 20 staff members, developing story assignments, editing writers' stories, completing headlines and other page work, coordinating a higher education focus page, coordinating a series on the politics of higher education in the UNC system while maintaining duties as a reporter.   
         
    • Assistant State & National Editor, Jan. 1997 - Oct. 1997

      Assisted desk editor with nightly duties including pulling wire stories, reading and editing stories, writing headlines and developing story ideas while continuing to write stories.

      As the highest ranking hourly supervisor in Wal-Mart of Asheboro, duties include managing all store associates, dealing with customer concerns, assisting with scheduling and accounting procedures, analyzing reports, merchandising products and assisting with hiring procedures.

    • May 1995 - Aug. 1997   
      Supervised front of store operations. Kept customers moving through lines quickly, kept change to cashiers, performed technical operations with cash registers and scanners and made refund decisions. I began working for Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. June, 1994.   
         
    • Interned in District Attorney's Office, Asheboro, NC

    • May 1997 - Aug. 1997   
      Researched background on accused criminal, helped prepare evidence for court cases and communicated with defense attorneys.

    Personal Background    
      Family: I am a native of Asheboro, NC. I have lived there 20 years. I have one sibling, a twin brother.  

      Hobbies: I enjoy being outside. Along with normal sports like football, basketball and baseball, I also enjoy both snow skiing and water skiing. Last summer I began working on my pilot's license and this summer I hope to learn how to hang glide.   

      I enjoy traveling. I plan to take a road trip across the United States and one day I hope to backpack across Europe.  

      Reflections: When you take risks and face challenges, it is only then that you figure out what life is all about: living.
