my own blog

For the most part, I feel that the blog has been an overall success for the english class. When I first came into this class, I had never heard of what a blog was, and this was my first exposure to one. i found it interresting that so many people have been able to communicate so openly over the internet for everyone to be able to read. Another benificial purpose of the blog was being able to post the draft workshops. this allowed us to see not only what was being said about our own papers, but being able to view the problems that others were having as well. I found that reading others post on a paper other than my own was just as helpful as the blog from the person that read my paper. I do not think that blogs will be as popular as many other types of communication, but they are a great tool to help get your opinion out. The only problem with blogs is the problem with making them avalible on a wide spread basis. if there was a way for a blog to be out there for everyone to see, then I feel the blogs would be more benificial to people on a more worldwide basis. As for right now, the blog only affects yourself and the direct people that you know.

professional understanding

over the past few years, i have had several experiences with physical therapist, but few with athletic trainers, but i felt that they would do similar things. Therapist work to restore the body after an injury, while trainers work to prevent the injuries from occuring. the blog i have studied really doesnt change my view on the job of athletic training. I pretty much had a good understanding of what an athletic trainer did, and nothing that is on the blog really taught me anything, or changed how i felt about what happens day to day during the job. the blog doesnt really go into great detail about the day to day activites about what a athletic trainer does, but focuses more on advancements in the feild and what is going on dealing with a larger audience instead of just dealing with what he does everyday.

unit 3 subject

for the unit 3 subject, i choose a japanesse man who is a doctor in exercise and sports science. it seems as if he is knowledable about cast subjects, based on the articles which he has written, but in the blog he seems more laid back. i choose to do an exercise and sports science class because thats what i intend on majoring in. well actually athletic training, but i searched for 4 hours for someone to write to and had no luck. so this was the closet thing that i could find. i have had to go through physical therapy many times due to sports injuries, and hopefully i will get into the physical therapy school, so athletic training is a good path to follow. i have had first hand expierence dealing with being a patient and being a therapist, through internships at my high school, so i feel that it will be a career field that i will enjoy.

unit 2 review

Overall, I feel that I did about as good on this one as i did the last, not nessaceraly better. My papers did about the same I feel, but I think that my speech sucked. I fumbled on my topics, and I just didnt do a good job. I wish that my portfolio was better than the last time and that I got a better grade, but I am not sure if I did or not. I really need a good grade on this one since i didnt do so hot on the last one, but I am not sure whether or not I have done it. English has never been my best subject, and thats evident from my grades (since im doing the worst in this class of all of mine). But maybe if i dont have to speak in fron of the class next time, i might get a better grade.

speech review

My speech is still a long way from being finished, The problem that I seem to be having is that I am really unsure about what to talk about, and how to make strong counterpoints to my arguement from feeder 2. The part of my speech that I feel does do a good job of is the personal experiences that I have been able to see first hand, but the rest of my speech still needs work. I am unsure about how I need to get the logos and ethos of my paper to come across more effectively. The only part that I feel is sufficient is the pathos aspect of my paper. I know that I have a lot of work to do in order to get my speech to where it needs to be, and the points that I make need to become a lot stronger, and I need more qualifiers in order to make my arguement stronger.

draft workshops process

so far, I like the draft workshops. I think that they help me realize things that I wouldnt have thought of without the workshop. As far as them being online, I think that it helps give us more time to fully analyze the papers, where as in class, we were forced to rush through all the work and the questions and we didnt get time to actually read the paper and still have time to complete the assignment. I personally dont like doing work on the computer, cause Im pretty much an idiot when it comes to computers, but I do think that it is good to have plenty of time to get the work done. If we rushed through the papers, then we didnt get the full effect that the workshops are supposed to do. So over all, I enjoy the workshops, and think that they really help the papers we are writing and impoves communication through out the class.

Speech

I'm really not sure everything that I'm going to say in my speech, but I know that it is going to be about the employment in America. My biggest point is going to be my personal experiences so I guess I'm going to have to use pathos the most in my speech. Where I'm from, there is mainly factory jobs, and many people have been laid off due to the jobs going over seas. The text is going to be mainly about how I have seen first hand the effects of the jobs being shipped over seas. I will also use ethos to focus on the common knowledge that we need jobs to keep the economy up and that american jobs are more important to americans. I guess logos could fall into this category as well. But my main focus will be on pathos.

oct 5th workshop

I read Sam's paper
2-the paper does a good job representing one partys view and why it is affective, but it does not even mention the other party's views, the paper does not oppose one view, it just presents one side in a positive way.
3-the paper thesis statement presents the point of the paper well, and views a brief overview of what the paper is about and the stand it takes on the issue.
4-the paper does a good job using all the strategies except pathos, at several places he could have used personal experiences to help drive home the point and appeal to more people since he knows from first hand experience the things he is talking about.
5-i think that the paper is convincing, it gives strong arguements to why Kerry's plan is more powerful and presents the views of Kerry in a very positive light. He uses good points and various sources that help drive the point he is trying to make home.
