Encourage, excite, enjoy -
teaching children the fun of playing sports the right way
College Kids Coaching Kids What is CKCK? COLLEGE KIDS COACHING KIDS is an recently started organization to which helps to provide students with the opportunities to coach children in sports. It's a great chance to affect a child's life by showing enthusiasm, interest, and love in their efforts on the playing field. They learn what is means to have character, be a good sport, and most importantly have fun. Surprisingly, you may find that you may learn about yourself by just watching them play and growing close to them as they jump all over you when they see you before practice. The purpose of our coaching is not to win, but to teach in all aspects what it means to have character. The attitude we show the kids is the attitude the kids reflect. An enthusiastic smile help to produce the number one goal --> for everyone to enjoy playing sports. Pick the Sport (Soccer, Basketball, Baseball/Softball) you'd like to coach to click and it's button to the left, follow the steps outlined on the pages, and you're on your way to coaching a great group of kids. This page will provide the gateway for you to get into contact with the organizations involved with the youth sports. In addition to that information, there will be info to help you in your coaching. Whether it be rules, stories, or drills, we're going to make that information accessible as well. It is a large responsibility taking care of other people's children, so be sure to check out the COACHING TOOLS page to get a little guidance. |

The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important that education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than success, than what other people think or say they do. It is more important that appearance, giftedness, or skill. It will make or break a company... a church... a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice everyday regarding the attitude we embrace for that day. We cannot change our past... we cannot change the fact that people act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude... I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it. And so it is with you... we are in charge of our attitudes. Author of "Attitude" - Chuck Swindol |
Why have this group?
This group will provide the connection between the various organizations (Rainbow Soccer, YMCA Basketball, and Parks and Recreation Baseball/Softball) and the students. My first year at school I felt lead to coach a YMCA Biddy Basketball Team, but being new in the area I really didn't know where or who to contact. After a barrage of phone calls, I found a need for a 5-6 year old basketball team at the Durham Lakewood YMCA. What followed that season was the most fun I've had at school, players that have called me to "coach" their birthday parties, and memories which I constantly tell the stories. At a time when I wasn't sure of alot things, those kids taught me there is alot more out there than just what lies within Chapel Hill's walls. I started this group with the purpose of making it easier for others to get involved in coaching.
Who We Are
Meg Lanchantin - email - Advisor
James DuRant - jdurant@email.unc.edu - Right now, I'm the one putting this together - I've gotten it started and done the webpage. Now we are trying to get more people to help out. We're going to need people to help advertise through publicity such as flyers, "Pit Sitting," and "Painting the Cube." As CKCK expands there will be the need for even more support at many different jobs.

News
Winter 2001-2002:
Currently we're in basketball season with various people coaching different YMCA Basketball teams. In the near future, we will be preparing the information on coaching Little League Baseball or Softball. So stay tuned to this page or join the list-serve to get the details. In the meantime, talk it up and see you can get a group that would like to coach some baseball or softball.
The Future
Currently we have some plans on the horizon to expand CKCK. We are in the process of applying for various scholarships for funding some projects.
Priority:
1. Allow for electron data entry (forms).
2. Bringing in speakers to talk about coaching, character, and sports in general. With the excellent sports throughout the area, we would like to take advantage of the knowledge and wisdom which has fostered the growth and success of many admired athletic programs.
3. Put on a basketball camp or league for area children who might not be able to attend North Carolina Basketball School for various reasons. A focus would be not only on teaching the game of basketball, but also focusing on the individuals all-around growth in attitude and spirit. Funding would provide the opportunity for facilities and teachers.
