Selected Engines:

I will gauge the search engine’s prowess by its ability to find any of the links I think are particularly relevant to the issue and should be located in an initial search by any engine.  The links I have chosen are generally representative of “sound” information written by professionals in a responsible format that is regularly updated…

This assignment fits in well with one of my health policy classes as I am currently putting together a presentation on UNC’s code on Sexual Harrassment.

I will be searching the term: UNC Sexual Harrassement. My Boolean Query is UNC AND Sexual AND Harassment.

Additionally, since it is March, I will make my second search item concerning NCAA Men’s Division I Poll, especially focused on which bubble teams will make the cut, and which ones will not.

I will be searching the term: NCAA Men’s Division Basketball I Poll. My Boolean Query is NCAA AND Men AND Basketball AND Poll NOT NBA.

Finally, I will search the search engine’s overseas capabilities by searching for information on Tony Blair’s recent foul-up of Labour honesty.

I will be searching the term: Labour Government Tony Blair. My Boolean Query is Labour AND Government AND Tony AND Blair.

Helpful Features: Google has an extensive "search specific" menu allowing for image searches, group searches, or directory searches. Additionally Google also has an advanced search feature that allows a user to further specify the constraints of a query. Excite also allows for "search specific" queries for directories and photos. Especially unique is the special section for "Metasearch" a more powerful system. The "White Pages" and "Yellow Pages" are especially useful for business searches, even if not relevant to my particular queries. While Yahoo's Search Engine performed relatively well, the real advantage Yahoo presents are its extensive tools in money management, maps, music, shopping, news, etc. Again, while these are not relevant to my searches, they are extremely useful in other activities.
