Beam is one of North Carolina's polished jewels.

Jeffery Beam's poems provide a wide range of pleasures. Herein find children's lullabies, love poems, minimalist flowers, surrealist rifts, metaphysical and spiritual excursions into the natural world, sexual adventure, medieval-inspired songs, and eastern infused lyrics. Chosen from two unpublished scripts, one work-in-progress, and nine published works, these poems explore the relationship between the physical and the spiritual through natural history, the vagaries of love and attraction, myth, dream, perennial philosophy, and the senses.

Enhanced by multimedia through the visual art of Dürer, James McGarrell, Baron Von Gloeden, Andrea del Sarto, Ippy Patterson, David Terry, and others; complemented by video clips of readings, artist portraits, essays by and about the poet, review excerpts, poem texts, and original compositions by Oboist and composer Bo Newsome; see why poet Kenny Fries in The San Francisco Bay Times declared Beam's work "an essential antidote to our time."

Author of An Elizabethan Bestiary: Retold, The Fountain, Visions of Dame Kind, and six other volumes of poetry, Beam's work has received grants from the Mary Duke Biddle Foundation and the Orange County Arts Council, as well as an award for public service from the Provost Office through the UNC-Chapel Hill Center for Public Service. The recipient previously of Pushcart and ALA Notable Book nominations, his most recent book, the Bestiary, was chosen as one of the Ten Best Books of the 1991 by Independent Publisher magazine, and received a 50 Books award from the American Institute of Graphic Arts. Writers' Digest chose Oyster Boy Review, for which he serves as Poetry Editor, as the best 2001 e-zine poetry market.

This CD contains audio tracks playable in a standard audio system as well as multimedia playable on a personal computer. IBM and Mac compatible.
