Welcome to my home page.

I was a Professor of Economics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for 39 years.  I retired June 30, 2014. During my last ten years at UNC, I helped design and implement the Entrepreneurship Minor at UNC.

I continue my association with the Carolina Population center and work on projects centered on health issues in less developed countries. I have consulted with government agencies and private firms on antitrust and regulatory matters and have consulted with government agencies and international research organizations on health care issues in less developed countries. I have worked in the Philippines, China, Vietnam, Thailand, Korea, India, Kenya, and Cote d'Ivoire.
