Research Highlights

We determined the avoided deaths from reducing BC emissions from each of 8 world regions and 3 sectors of the economy, based on simulations with MOZART-4. We show here the avoided deaths per unit emissions ("mitigation efficiency") with the total BC emissions ("mitigation capacity"). India is estimated to be the region where a unit reduction in BC emissions has the greatest health benefit, while East Asia has the highest emissions. For India and China, residential and industrial emissions are higher than transportation emissions, and have greater health benefits per unit reduction. For more information see:
