This is my photography portfolio from the class I took abroad in Florence,
Italy. The pictures have been scanned and are not the same resolution
as the original prints. Each print in its original version was hand processed
in black and white chemistry. This portfolio was completed during my fall semester senior year. Most
of these pictures were taken in the mountains in Virginia. When I went
to Virginia to take the photographs, I had to buy cheap film from the
local grocery store because I forgot to bring regular film with me. That
cheap film, although it was black and white film, still had color emulsion
in it. Because of that, I could not develop the film myself or process
the prints using normal techniques. After many days of long hours and
frustration, I was able to devise a process that successful printed a
clear image. During the process I experimented with various textures of
papers. That is why some of the pictures have less contrast than others.
All of the prints were washed in selenium toner to give them more contrast.
They have been scanned and are not the same resolution as the original
prints.
