Jon Abramowitz
Jon Abramowitz joined the UNC Clinical Psychology faculty in July 2006 as an Associate Professor. He also holds an appointment as Research Associate Professor in the Psychiatry Department, and serves as Associate Chair of Psychology. His research focuses on the nature and treatment of anxiety disorders, and he is Director of the UNC Anxiety and Stress Disorders Clinic. Dr. Abramowitz is a Licensed Psychologist in North Carolina and a Diplomate of the American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP). Before joining the UNC faculty, he was Associate Professor and Director of the Anxiety Disorders Program at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN.

Research and Clinical Interests
Dr. Abramowitz’s research and clinical interests focus on understanding and treating obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and other anxiety disorders such as panic attacks, phobias, and intense health anxiety. He is also committed to training the researchers and clinicians of tomorrow in how to understand and effectively treat these problems. 

Dr. Abramowitz has written/edited 6 books and published over 100 peer-reviewed research articles and book chapters on OCD and other anxiety disorders. He has received awards and research grants from the National Institute of Mental Health, American Psychological Association, Mayo Clinic, and Obsessive Compulsive Foundation. Dr. Abramowitz also serves on advisory boards for the Obsessive Compulsive Foundation and Anxiety Disorders Association of America, and on the Board of Directors of the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies (ABCT, formerly AABT). He is also on the editorial board of several professional journals and is an Associate Editor of the scientific journal Behaviour Research and Therapy.

The Clinic includes a research program and a treatment center in which students learn to function as clinical scientists who contribute to the scientific literature and who apply scientifically supported psychological theory and methods to the treatment of clinical anxiety problems.
