Rail Transit
Currently Underway
The regional public transit provider for the Research Triangle, the Triangle Transit Authority, has already planned and will soon begin construction of a $700 million regional rail system that will connect downtown Raleigh, Cary, RTP, and downtown Durham with a 35-mile starter line.

Chapel Hill should request the Triangle Transit Authority to incorporate it into the proposed infrastructure in order to reduce carbon wasted by Single Occupancy Vehicles (SOVs). We propose connecting Chapel Hill to the main commuter line with the construction of two light rail lines as shown in the maps above. These lines will reduce density of roads and the number of trips by SOVs while connecting the larger RTP region with the following destinations:
