Draft Workshop March 4th

Draft Workshop Form March 4
1. Either paraphrase or copy and paste the author's hypothesis into your comment and evaluate it using the criteria we've developed in class. Please be as thorough as possible.
2. The assignment asks you to reference at least two academic journal articles. Evaluate the author's success in fulfilling this requirement. Do the sources appear to be academic journals (hint: you can google the journal name and check for yourself)? Is the research integrated into the paper elegantly? Substantively?
3. Evaluate the author's system of rewards and punishments. Does the paper make it clear that the author has included both substantive rewards and punishments? Do the rewards and punishments make sense? Do you think the experiment will be a success? Why or why not?
4. What types of data will the author need to collect in order to prove or disprove his or her hypothesis? Does the author explain how this data will be collected in his or her paper? Do you have any suggestions about how this aspect of the paper could be improved?

1. I actually was not able to discern a hypothesis in the paper. I believe that you are trying to say that you expect to follow the routine that you set and that the experiment will go well. I was not able to find that precisely in the paper, so maybe you could add it in.

2. There are no references to academic articles.

3. I did not think that your rewards and punishments will be quite effective. You state that you will get more sleep, personally I just think that is just effect of getting more sleep, not a reward. The same for the punishment, you say that your day will not be good, but I do not think that is very effective. I think that a physical reward and punishment should be created to be more motivational.

4. It is important that you write down your goals on a timely basis. I would definitely record your activities from 12-1 am. You say that you will pack and take your clotes out for the first 15 min, listen to music the next 15, take a 15 min shower, and then watch tv. I think that although this is a good schedule, it is too militaristic. What if you wanted to take a longer shower or listen to music for a while longer. I think that this paper can be improved by giving more time to perform these activites and still go to sleep by one, and if not then you would need a much stricter reward and punishment system.
