Starry Night

Vincent Van Gogh's "Starry Night" has been my favorite work of art for a number of years. I first fell in love with this painting as a 7th grade student when I took a "enrichment" class over spring break that concentrated on abstract art. The teacher showed many works of art, and at the end of the week each student had to try and re-create their favorite work from the week; I attempted "Starry Night" and still have the picture I painted hanging in my room at home beside a print of Van Gogh's original.
Over Christmas, while visting New York City, I visited the Modern Art Musuem. After visiting a couple of floors, myself, and friends made our way to the fourth floor where a lot of Van Gogh's work was on display; I knew I would soon see the original "Starry Night." Entering the large gallery it was not hard to find my favorite painting as a crowd had formed around the picture. While I spent minutes standing in front of a lot of the paintings at the gallery, something about "Starry Night" took me away, and kept me there for almost a half hour. Taking in all of Van Gogh's detail, I was taken away to the milky way flowing through Van Gogh's brilliant scene. I find nothing in the world more beautiful than a clear starry night, but Van Gogh's painting is the first, and only painting that has ever, at least for me, rivaled the beauty of nature.
