Mission
The Boyz Are Back > About The Boyz > Mission
The Boyz Are Back Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, faith-based organization
serving at-risk youth in Winston-Salem/Forsyth County, North Carolina.
We are dedicated to facilitating the academic, physical,
and spiritual development of youth.
Professional
athletes are key players in the organization as they are essential in attracting
youth as well as influencing them in a positive manner.
Major issues addressed through our services:
- school performance,
attendance, and conduct;
- criminal behavior;
- unhealthy habits;
- substance abuse.
We offer positive alternatives to negative influences
that include messages from television, the Internet, video games, and music.
We take a biblical approach to addressing not only the spiritual but also
the academic and physical development of youth.
Our goal is to replace unfavorable outcomes such as:
- dropping out
of school or doing poorly in school;
- committing
criminal acts that include violence;
- becoming
teen-age parents;
- engaging
in unhealthy lifestyles that result in obesity;
- succumbing
to drug and/or alcohol abuse
with positive
ones:
- achieving
academic excellence and pursuing meaningful careers;
- demonstrating responsible
behavior
- showing respect for
others,
- exhibiting
good conduct in all situations;
- maintaining healthy lifestyles to include proper
exercise and nutrition;
- making sound choices
based on biblical principles.
The key measure of
the program’s effectiveness is school success, defined as:
- maintaining
a “B” average or better;
- having regular
attendance (95%+);
- exhibiting appropriate
behavior on and off the field.
Mentors assess participant progress and status school through communications
with parents, guidance counselors, and coaches. They also provide support
for resolving issues that impact school success using community resources.
