Mentoring
Program
Youth participants in The Boyz Are Back Inc.’s
school-year-round program receive mentoring from board members
and volunteers. Adults are associated with churches in the Winston-Salem/Forsyth
County area.
The mentoring component consists of:
- Individual follow-up: each participant
receives follow-up four times during the school year; board members
and volunteers work with parents, school guidance counselors, and
coaches to assess participants’ academic performance, attendance,
and conduct.
- Rap sessions: volunteers with counseling
backgrounds lead discussion sessions that allow youth to express
concerns and receive guidance on adolescent issues.
- Community service: youth engage in
community service to increase their awareness of and compassion
for those in need.
- Enrichment activities: each
participant takes an overnight trip to see an NFL game; tour the
campus of a college or university; and visit a site of historical
significance.
Problems identified during the mentoring process are addressed
with community resources.
