• Serve as beat correspondent for Chatham County, south of Chapel Hill.
• Write stories covering a wide scope, from “Chatham hometown” (feature) stories to county government meetings and controversial issues.

Reporter, The Baltimore Sun, Annapolis, MD, Summer 2003 internship
• Wrote stories as a general assignment reporter in the Anne Arundel County bureau.
• Covered daily stories on some of the beats of other reporters in my office, especially when co-workers went on vacations. Beats included education, land development and Annapolis city.
• Pitched story ideas and wrote the in-depth features (about 25-30 inches) that became centerpieces for front page of metro section.
• Completed briefs, did cops stories for a couple of weeks and covered a story on a grieving family.

Public Relations Intern, SeaWeb, Washington, D.C., Summer 2002
• Co-planned a seafood markets overnight conference at a Virginia retreat center for members of the ocean conservation community; provided event support and took minutes at meetings.
• Compiled a database of over 1,200 media contacts for the non-profit organization to coordinate its outreach efforts and generate publicity for ocean issues.
• Contacted congressional offices; organized relevant news clips.

• Investigated and wrote stories relating to campus interest issues and hard news.
