Susan Keesee
A second-year graduate student at the School of Information and Library Science, Susan also works at the Health Sciences Library at UNC-Chapel Hill. Between 1994 and 1999, she was editorial director at the American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists, and for five years before that was an assistant editor there. In November 1999, she began a two-year sabbatical to manage the construction of a passive solar home south of Chapel Hill; take journalism and library science courses; write and edit copy for local groups; and tutor ESL students.
Susan earned a bachelor's degree from Virginia Tech in clothing and textiles and master's degree from Clemson University in textile science. Her involvement with the American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists' test method development committees while employed between 1985 and 1989 by AlliedSignal (near Petersburg, Va.) spurred her career transition from textile sciences to technical and scientific publications.
HeSusan now lives in the completed solar home with her husband, Dave, and one dachshund, Pennie, and a shepherd-hound (Heinz 57 mix) named Dixie. Their first dog, a very special dachshund named Roscoe, died in late September 2003 at the age of 15.
