RULES
Section 1. Cups.
(a) All cups shall be plastic, and shall be sized between 6 and 16 ounces,
depending on the size of the table involved.
(b) The first round
shall use six cups, the following rounds shall use 10 cups.
Section 2. Table.
(a) The table will be a regulation ping pong table
Section 3. Balls.
(a) All ping pong balls must meet a minimum of the one-star rating.
(b) All balls must be standard white.
(c) Competitors must use the same balls during the tournament. Players may
not reserve their own balls for their personal use.
Section 4. Beer.
(a) During the first round, 24 ounces of beer will be divided among the
cups. The following rounds will use 36 ounces.
(c) The beer may be apportioned among those cups at the individual contestants
discretion, though each cup must have sufficient beer in the cup to ensure its
stability.
Section 5. Cup Arrangement.
(a) All games shall use the standard pyramid formation.
(b) At any point in the match a rearrangement of the cups, may be called, but
only once.
Section 6. Tossing.
(a) No thrown ball shall be counted as a made cup if it bounces on the playing
surface. Direct throws are the only acceptable sort.
(b) If a defensive contestant fails to remove a ball from the playing surface
and that ball subsequently enters into his or her cup, either on its own power
or as a result of the attempted defensive play, that toss shall count as a made
cup.
(c) If a tossed ball causes a cup to tip over, the defensive player shall be
penalized one cup for not placing enough beer in said cup to ensure the
stability of the cup. This rule applies only to cups that are knocked over, and
not to cups which slide off the edge of the table as a result of a slick playing
surface.
(d) Players shall alternate shots during the game. There shall be no exceptions
to this rule.
(e) Balls may be cleaned or dried at any point during the match without
incurring a penalty.
Section 7. Rebuttals.
(a) When one team has made their opponents final cup, the team who is
facing defeat is allowed two rebuttal shots.
(b) If a contestant makes a rebuttal shot, that contestant may remove the ball
from his or her final cup and continue playing. The contestant on whom the
rebuttal was made must drink the cup that was made as a result of the rebuttal
and remove that cup from play.
(c) The previous subsection does not apply if the rebuttal shot is made in his
or her opponent's last cup. In such a situation, where both contestants are
shooting at the last cup, players must move to overtime.
(d) Overtime is
operated by three cups being placed in a triangular formation on each players
side filled with one twelve ounce beer. At this point it is as if a new
game has begun.
Section 8. Drinking.
(a) When one contestant makes a shot in one of his or her opponent's cup, the
contestant whose cup was made must drink the beer in that cup and remove the cup
from play.
(b) Play shall not continue until all of the beer in the made cup has been
consumed by the contestant whose cup was made.
(c) There shall be no surrogate drinkers. Each contestant shall consume all of
his or her own beer or face disqualification from the tournament.
(d) A failure to drink all of one's required beer shall result in the immediate
disqualification of said contestant.
(e) At the end of each match, the loser must drink the remaining cups of his or
her opponent. Sportsmanship on this point is encouraged, but not required.
(f) If a contestant throws up before all of the beer in play during that match
has been consumed, said contestant may continue playing if he or she continues
drinking as is his or her responsibility under this section.
(g) Intentional vomiting is forbidden and is grounds for disqualification and or
forfeiture of the individual match, to be determined by a majority of the
participating contestants.
Section 9. Time outs.
(a) Each player is allowed two timeouts per match in the second and following
rounds.
(b) No timeout shall exceed 3 minutes unless the contestant who calls that
time-out is in the process of moving his or her bowels or vomiting. In such
situations, the timeout shall last as long as the bowel movement or vomiting
takes.
(c) If a contestant calls a timeout after he or she has used his or her
allotment of timeouts for the match, said contestant shall forfeit the match in
which he or she is immediately involved.
(d) If a contestant unnecessarily or willfully delays the game, said contestant
shall be charged a timeout with the concurrence of a majority of the
participating contestants. If a player does so when he or she has used his or
her allotment of timeouts, the player shall forfeit the match with the
concurrence of a majority of the participating contestants.
Section 10. Coin Toss.
(a) At the start of every match, a third-party shall toss a coin. The winner of
said coin toss shall have the option of selecting which side to defend or to
take the ball first. Whichever option the coin toss winner chooses, the opposing
contestant may select the other option.
Section 11. Zamboni.
(a) At the beginning of each match, the playing surface shall be wiped clean of
freestanding beer or other debris that could alter the bounce or trajectory of
the ball or the movement of the cups.
(b) Cleaning the playing surface shall not be allowed during the course of a
match unless a cup is accidentally tipped over or unless player carelessness has
resulted in a playing surface that is unfit for competition. Such a
determination shall be made with the concurrence of a majority of the
participating contestants.
Section 12. Caddies.
(a) Contestants may hire or appoint a caddy to clean their balls, set up and
fill their cups, and provide them with strategic or emotional support. Said
support may only be verbal.
(b) Caddies may not address the opponent, or the opponent's caddy, during the
course of a match if said exchange is in any way derogatory or in an attempt to
physically or mentally hamper the opponent's ability to play.
(c) All caddies are honor bound to uphold both the letter and spirit of these
rules in the exercise of their duties.
(d) If a caddy is deemed to be interfering with the outcome of a match, or is
deemed a distraction or nuisance, said caddy may be barred from performing his
or her duties with the concurrence of a majority of the participating
contestants.
Section 13. Sportsmanship.
(a) All players and caddies shall refrain from unsportsmanlike conduct. Such
conduct is subject to a fine, to be determined at the beginning of each and
every tournament with the concurrence of a majority of the participating
contestants.
(b) Infractions shall be determined by a majority of those participants who
witnessed the alleged infraction.
(c) For each infraction, a guilty contestant shall pay the agreed upon fine.
(d) All monies from fines shall be collected and set aside as part of the prize
money for the tournament.
(e) Distractions are allowed, but the distracter must stay on his or her side of the table, and should refrain from such excessive distractions as covering the cups with his or her shirt. Excessive distractions shall be determined with the concurrence of a majority of the participating contestants.
So basically.......
We are playing 6 cup 2 beer 15 minute time limit in the first round, and 10 cup 3 beer unlimited time in the next two rounds.
