Open Positions at the Kesimer Laboratory at UNC
A postdoctoral position is available for a Ph.D. level candidate at University of North Carolina, Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics, and the Cystic Fibrosis/Pulmonary Research Center. We are interested in functional characterization mucin-protein interactions in the lung secretions from Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and normal involving innate defense of the airways. This study will employ a broad range of biochemical methods including, mass spectrometry, light scattering and electron microscopy to characterize mucins and their complexes. The Sheehan/Kesimer laboratory in the Cystic Fibrosis (CF) and Pulmonary Research and Treatment Center is one of the best equipped and most focused mucin/mucus biochemistry and biophysics innate immunity laboratories in the USA. As such, it will provide the selected candidate with a unique opportunity to develop new skills and apply them to fundamental questions in innate lung defense.
Individuals experienced with mass spectrometry, molecular/cellular biology are encouraged to apply. Oral and written communication and organizational skills, as well as the ability to get along with co-workers and faculty in multi-disciplinary research teams, are essential.
If interested, please send a cover letter, C.V., and names of at least 3 references to: kesimer@med.unc.edu
