- Locals
React to Heights As a part of its Vision 2020 Downtown Development
plan, the board has proposed raising building height limits to five
stories from its current three to promote dense growth in the downtown
area.(Carrboro
Could Raise Building Height Limit) Just how important it is to Carrboro
residents to participate in local government was apparent that night;
a ridiculous amount of people showed up to this meeting. They each spoke
for a very liberal count of three minutes, and the discussion went back
and forth for hours.

- Carrboro,
Chapel Hill Developing Differently I had the chance to speak to
some of the oldest residents of Chapel Hill and Carrboro for this piece.
I also got to egg people on about the subtle rivalry between Chapel
Hill and Carrboro, which was great.

- Aldermen
Ban Loitering in Designated Public Locations The best part of this
meeting was when John Herrera brought the two Latina women up to the
podium and translated for them while the testified about the harassment
they'd suffered at bus stops. Herrera may keep quiet at the meetings,
but he's a very active part of the community and I often call for an
interview only to find him down in D.C. testifying about one issue or
another.

- Aldermen
Approve Greene Tract Use This was my second Aldermen meeting, after
which I decided to take on the Aldermen beat. I know it isn't the most
enthralling or feature-y news, but I respect the board and have really
enjoyed attending their meetings each Tuesday.
