Alright, here's the thing. Marissa suggested she might like a painting of the Black Lodge, like one of these:
First Painting
Second Painting
Third Painting
Now, I don't think I draw or paint very well - but I can use some motherfucking painter's tape to block off straight lines and shit, and paint them in, and that's what I did. So I'm doing a painting mainly inspired by the first one, with the bloodstain. It won't be an exact copy, because I'm nowhere near that good, but it's looking pretty awesome, if I do say so myself. I still need to put the blood on, but I've got that worked out, it just needs to be done. There is no way I could paint good (or "good") curtains though, so I'm not going to try. BUT - I do have some burgundy velvet fabric in my stash, so I thought I could attach some to the top of the canvas so that it fell down in front of the painting in bunches (curtain-like bunches). And it'd be two pieces, so you could part it in the middle to see the painting, and maybe tie the curtains back or some shit if you wanted. I was discussing this with Greg, when he suggested I mount a mini curtain rod to the painting's frame, and actually hang some mini curtains off it. I think if I could do it properly, this would be the way to go, and much better-looking than stapling fabric to the top of the frame. Greg thinks it'd be easy to rig up a mini curtain rod with some dowels and a couple pieces of wood - and he can be pretty crafty with wood, but I am not so much, and I don't want any gnarly unfinished pieces of wood up on my pretty pretty painting, looking all raggedy and out of place. But I'm sure there are some nicely lathed pieces of wood just waiting to be made into curtain rods. I don't know. And I'm pretty sure a real curtain rod would be too heavy (or too long) to use. That's my quandary. So what do you think? You can just leave a comment on the blog with which option you think would be best: A, B, or C.
A: I leave the painting as it is, no curtains.
B: I hem the velvet, bunch it up (think loose, curvy "pleats"), and staplegun it to the top of the canvas frame, so it drapes in front of the painting.
C: We rig up a curtain rod, a la Greg's genius idea. (The idea is genius - I'm just not so sure *I* can carry it off properly. Although Greg would probably help.)

Actually...she has small children. So, maybe B or C would be best?
But the downside to the velvet is, it gets fluff everywhere while you're cutting, sewing, and initially putting it in place - and I'm worried it might continue to shed fluff after it's in place, too. Hm. Decisions, decisions.
