| I've discovered that interning at an advertising
agency isn't the only creative outlet in town.. In the spirit of "blooming
where I'm planted," I began making sale posters at the small
private business where I began working last fall.. My years of doodling
in class finally payed off, because my boss asked if I would create
some ads for direct mail and print advertising. |
|
| These shoe advertisements are just a few
of the dozens of sketches I've done for Shoes at the Square. I am
hoping that when I become a full-fledged copywriter or creative director
at an agency, I can afford the shoes that I'm trying to market! |

| Ellen Fried, of Ellen and Floyd Inc. and
owner of Shoes at the Square, placed these prints ads in The Daily
Tar Heel and The Duke Chronicle. This particular ad for
the Robert Clergerie Quitan, was intended for a specific target
audience--those girls with a shoe fetish--female college students
and young professionals of course. |
|
| Look for the most recent advertisements
for our new fall lines. I am now working hard on ads for Cynthia Rowley,
Taryn Rose, Lisa Nading and Gentle Souls shoes. They should go to
print in early September. Also, I have collaborated on a few radio
spots that will be airing on local stations. You heard me now! Go
and buy some shoes. |

To the left is an artifact
from my first internship at Encompass Marketing and Design in Eau
Claire, Wisconsin. Besides this article, which appeared in the August
2001 issue of The School News, proof of my diligant work
includes spreadsheets and business letters. Although this sounds
rather unexciting, I count my time there as invaluable experience.
I learned the nuts and bolts of a small agency. I was able to gain
marketing, newswriting experience, and cold-calling experience.
