It happened during the ChimeraCon III Cantina (which I still don't have a
copy of!!!) I was playing Indiana Jones, who, as you probably know from the
movies, hates snakes. So, I worked the snakes into my monologue at times,
and it also came out in one of the sketches. Near the end of the show, I'm
walking up and down the stage trying to buy some time for a late running
sketch, and the whole audience (apparently composed solely of professional
hecklers) starts yelling "Snake!" I'm wondering what they're talking about.
It turns out that somebody had thrown a snake up onto the stage, but in the
bright lights coming down on me, I had missed it. So, I'm going up and down,
looking baffled, when suddenly, I see it. A big rubber snake (who comes to a
convention with a rubber snake?) sitting on the stage. I instantly give out
a little shout of fear, and kick it.
And what a kick it was! It went sailing off the stage at a 45 degree arc,
right into the center of the audience. Big cheers!
I didn't give it anymore thought after that, until after the show was over, and I see Diane trying to revive Rick. Suffering from heart problems at that time, he was surprised to see a black snake come flying straight at him! My unerring aim landed the snake right in his lap, and that was pretty much it for him for the rest of the show.
The good thing is he didn't die. The great thing is the big cheers!!
