Teaching Experience

1995-Present. Drama Teacher, Little River Elementary School, A+
Pilot Program, Durham, NC, Grades K-5. Develop and implement interdisciplinary curriculum. Chair, arts faculty. Member of school-based management team. A+ Committee member. Oversee technical upgrade of performance facilities. Write elementary drama curriculum based on Standard Course of Study for Durham Public School System.

1992-1995; 1988-1991. Theater Arts Teacher, Lowes Grove Middle School, Durham, NC, Grades 6-8. Researched, designed and Co-authored the school system's Middle School Theater Arts curriculum using standard course-of-study guidelines. Established theater arts program when drama was initiated in 1988. Advised middle school theater arts teachers on use of curriculum and classroom management. Mentor for theater arts teachers. Member of SSMT. Cultural Arts Chairperson, LGMS PTA, 1992-1993. Host teacher for student teacher. "Teacher of the Year" 1992-1993.

1991-1992. Drama Specialist, Durham County School System. Traveled to nine county schools (elementary, hospital, and BEH center) collaborating with classroom teachers on incorporating interdisciplinary arts and core subject units into their curriculum. Taught grades K through 12, demonstrating interdisciplinary techniques. Led after-school workshops for teacher renewal credit, and conducted on-site visits to assist middle school theater arts teachers.

1985-1986. Group Leader, Hope Valley After School Program, Durham, NC. Designed and implemented a creative drama program for children ages 7 and 8, and supervised assistants.

1985-1986. Substitute Teacher, Carolina Friends School, Durham, NC. Lower and Middle Schools.

1984-1985. Teacher, Park Center School, New York, NY. Designed and implemented skills curriculum for children ages 3-6. Targeted individual programs according to specific needs of population. Consulted with principal and with parents of children with special behavior needs to coordinate consistent consequence techniques at home and at school. Maintained curriculum files and paperwork for state approval and renewal of program.

1981-1982. Kindergarten Teacher, Academy Avenue School, Middletown, NY. Set up classroom with emergency funding due to overcrowded enrollment. Administered standardized testing and worked with local social services in identifying abused children.

1981. Director, Summer Program , Chautauqua Day Center, Fredonia, NY. Developed and coordinated a day-care program for children ages 3-12. Hired and trained staff, allocated funds, administered public relations. Supervised the work of State University College at Fredonia theater majors teaching creative dramatics at the center.
