JOMC 50 Student's Portfolio
This is an optional page for students who want to include photos, graphics, extensive hotlinks, and other extra stuff. We leave it up to you to voluntarily boost your grade with creative content.
In addition to providing comprehensive links on a particular topic, you could use this page to showcase background effects, animated graphics, multimedia clips, specialized search forms, tables, JavaScripts, etc. Or use it to showcase some of your pictures, talents, or something that helps make you unique.
Some student examples: See Jaime's Photo Album or Ben's Inca Tour Journal or what Emily wanted to share
It's really up to you what to include here. Have some fun.
Graphics: Find backgrounds and graphics at Wendy's Web Design Lecture and Eric's How to Make a Web Page Out of Nothing. However, more credit will be given to those who make their own graphics in PhotoShop or Illustrator and who cleverly adapt clip art.
Multimedia: Find clips and images at Lycos and Yahoo. For a nice example of how interactivity, multimedia, and animation can be combined, see Blue Mountain Arts greeting cards.
UNC Fanciness: See Graphics, Ismap, and Page Counters (see also Yahoo).
Search Forms and Interactivity: See, for example, Dogpile, HotBot, and Yahoo.
Java and JavaScript: Get scripts from Gamelan, Sun, and Yahoo.
Please keep in mind that you'll largely be on your own if you choose to take on this additional work. We encourage you and want to help, but we may not always have an immediate solution for your particular problem, should you encounter any difficulties. In any event, save often and back-up your files! Use Fetch early and often!
You'll be graded on difficulty, content (including spelling, grammar, and neatness), and style (how well designed and easy to navigate your portfolio is). There should be a logic to your page and/or it should say or demonstrate something coherent (not a jumble of stuff).
But don't be a bandwidth hog! No one appreciates pages that take forever to download. Limit yourself to no more than three fancy elements. Remember, finish the three required pages before devoting all your time to the portfolio page!
