Unfortunately, I am not allowed to post grades by your PID numbers (even if you signed the release). If you email me, I'll respond with your grade for the class. Have a good holiday.

 Introduction:

I treat this course as an introduction to sociology.  We will be concerned with developing a sociological perspective and learning a range of sociological concepts that can be applied to a broad range of topics.  Practically, this means we will not use a textbook (textbooks often jump from one narrow substantive area of sociology to another).  Instead, the first month of the course will be spent examining how the complex structures of society are built up from patterns of interaction among people.  The remainder of the course will use concepts explored in this first month of the class to illuminate a number of issues, including education, stratification, and politics.  Tools from the first month of the course can also be used to explore a number of other topics.  Later in the course, you will be able to choose an area that you would like to explore in more depth with these tools.

Please note that this syllabus (at least the course outline part) is subject to change.  Changes will be announced in class and included in the online version of this syllabus on my homepage(URL above).  In addition, information for assignments and reviews will be added to the web page at an appropriate time.
