Rio Solimões, Rio Purus, and Manaus, Brazil:
Here are some of the better pictures I took or traded for while Drew and I were in Brazil. We left Chapel Hill on the 27th of October and returned on November 19th. The first few days of the trip were spent sight seeing and taking in the city and surrounding area around Manaus. The next two weeks were spent on the boat motoring up the Rio Solimes and the Rio Purus while observing sand and mud and collecting samples along the way. From Manaus, we made it as far upstream as the small town of Alvares before turning back. The end of the trip was spent separating heavy minerals from the sand we collected. Most pictures have a short caption that will give you some idea of what you are looking at.
