Images of History: The Hmong
Picture #10:
The following is some information about me: Hi, my name is Michael Davichiangkpa Lee. I hope my photoessay was helpful! I am a Hmong student at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (Go Tar Heels!). I am currently pursuing a double major in Spanish and Management & Society with hopes of becoming a professor, eventually to teach Hmong history, language or Education at a university in NC. I wanted to create this photo essay to help anyone interested in the Hmong to learn more about their roles during the Vietnam war and why they are here in America. Furthermore, I wanted to learn more about myself, my culture and history before my parent’s generation passes away; as a Hmong American, it is very evident that the Hmong traditions and the Hmong language itself is quickly diminishing and maybe even inevitably dying off. I hope this small photo essay, though short and very vague, will recapture some of the glory of the Hmong past and preserve it for the future Hmong. It is my first time creating an online photo essay and I am rushing a bit to complete it, and I would appreciate any and all suggestions or corrections to the information I have provided. I will also try to update the information on a regular basis (once I learn how to) and will add more information as I find it. Thank you for taking the time to go through my compilation about the Hmong and hope it has been helpful to you and your endeavors.
