Some Factoids about Me
- I was born in Charlotte, North Carolina.
- My birthday is October 4, the feast day of
St. Francis of Assisi.
Some other people born on October 4:
Thanks to info from a 1989 Sassy
calendar, I also know that:
-
The Soviet Union launched Sputnik I on October 4, 1957.
-
Janis Joplin died on October 4, 1970.
- I grew up in Lincolnton,
North Carolina, a town quickly being suburbanized by Charlotte.
- I have one sister. She's a magnet for stray animals and works as a 911 operator for
Lincoln County.
- My dad is a lawyer in Lincolnton, and my mom works for
Lincoln County Schools as the
media and technology coordinator.
- I graduated from the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics in 1991.
- I graduated from Smith College in 1995 with a
chemistry major and
a women's studies minor.
- I worked on a PhD in chemistry
at the University of Georgia in Athens
for 3 unhappy years.
- I quit grad school in 1998. It was a life-changing experience.
- I worked in Acquisitions
at the UGA Libraries for 3 years.
- I moved to Carrboro in August of 2002 to start my master's in
library science at the
University of North Carolina at
Chapel Hill.
- It's great being back in the Triangle area, and my
family is happy I'm back in North Carolina (at least for a little while).
- I decided where to live here based on proximity to the Farmer's
Market and Weaver Street
Market because food is the organizing principle in my life.
- Another thing that makes me happy about living in Carrboro is that Chapel Hill buses are free, and it's
much more bike-friendly than Athens.
- I work at the Kenan
Chemistry Library in Venable Hall. It's easy to get lost in there.
- I'll be graduating in May and moving to Minneapolis
to be a chemistry and chemical engineering librarian at the
Science and Engineering Library at the
University of Minnesota.
