I think last year''s homework assignments should be accessible. I think having many many worked examples would help as a resource for this course.
Jason is by far the most willing professor to work with students that I have had at Tech. His lectures were very well prepared and the presentation was on a level that could be understood. He made himself available to the class throughout the semester for help.
My main concern with this class is that I shouldn''t have been ''advised'' (by BMED) to take it. No one ever told me that the class was going to be 80 graduate students, that the work was going to be EXTREMELY difficult as an UG ''elective'', nor that I would have assignments that were going to take me 10+ hours to do nearly every week (only to get a failing grade on them anyway.) It''s extremely frustrating. I would almost go as far as saying that there should be a different grading scheme for the UGs if it still continues to be a mixed class. The course loads and schedules of each group are COMPLETELY different...not to mention the fact that UGs simply aren''t used to course work (namely homework assignments) on this level. However, as far as the teaching goes, Prof. Metcalfe is wonderful. He''s approachable and ALWAYS encouraged the students to come to his office (unfortunately I rarely had the time). It makes a huge difference when the professor puts his willingness to help across to the class. Typically, most science and engineering professors let the UG''s know that they are truly a huge burden. I wish Metcalfe the best of luck with his career at Tech (if this is where he wishes to be). The UGs need more professors like him.
The course was too time consuming with all the assignments. The class exercises should have been the homeworkw assignments. Having to complete the homework which was like a test, was all soneone would have time to do. There was not enough time to complete the exercises given. Also, the class should be separted for undergraduate and graduate. It moved really fast for me. Thanks.
