But go ahead and read all about me... |
|
My name is Megan McCarthy and I am a senior at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I'm originally from Manassas Park, Virginia, a small city outside of Washington, D.C. I'm Broadcast Journalism major, but I spend most of my time on and off campus doing my job as battalion commander of the Naval ROTC unit. As of now, I plan to go to flight school in Pensacola, Florida after I graduate, and then I hope to be transferred to Corpus Christi, Texas for further training. Below are pictures taken of me on my summer cruises assigned by NROTC. |

This is me, Megan McCarthy, in front of a F/A-18, which is a Naval Fighter jet. It was taken in Lemoore, California, during the summer of 1999, which was the only time I have been able to get a hop in a jet that requires G-suits.

During one summer cruise, I was introduced to the submarine community. This is a picture of me lounging in the torpedo tube of a United States Navy submarine. Going under the surface of the ocean and feeling the ship dive and surface was fun, and sitting on the bridge as we pulled into port was really exciting, but females are not allowed to be assigned to submarines. Besides, I would prefer flying.

Believe it or not though, ROTC is not the only thing I participate in. I am also the floor director and an assistant reporter in Carolina Week, the school news program. It airs on campus on channel 22 and off-campus in Chapel Hill on Channel 4 at 7 PM on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday evenings. Check it out sometime. |
