Access Project
During the fall 2005 semester, Katherine was selected to serve as a Graduate Research Consultant on the ACCESS (Accessible College Campuses for Everyone Site Survey) Project. The primary objective of this Project is to evaluate the campus experiences of individuals with mobility impairments through a detailed, standardized analysis of physical access for disabled individuals to facilities at public institutions of higher education in North Carolina. The ultimate goal of this project is to find and communicate best practices so that each campus can improve functional independence and educational success of disabled students. This experience has exposed her to other aspects of health services research, including data collection, daily issues faced by individuals with mobility impairments, and the influence of federal and state law on health related matters.
