Welcome! This webpage has been put together as a resource for all local North Carolina trail runners to organize local trail training, races, fun runs, and adventure runs. Contact me, Matt Kirk, with any questions or comments. Also, feel free to sign up on the listserv. The ultra-training listserv, which is linked to this page, is similar in operation to the Dartmouth ultra list, but is very low-traffic and aimed specifically towards organizing local events.

An NC Ultra Series?!?

Would it not be sweet? One idea is the Mountains-to-Sea Trail Series to benefit NC's own premier long-distance hiking path, the Mountains-to-Sea Trail. The proposal is to have 4 ultras along the various portions of the currently existing pathway from Mountains to the Sea. Each of the events would be run along the trail. The Sauratown Trails 50 mile (quite possibly returning in 100K format next year) could be one option for the Piedmont region. A proposed 40 mile along the Falls Lake Trail north of Raleigh would be a nice choice for the Triangle region, leaving a possible Neusiok Trail 40 mile near the coast in Croatan National Forest and a mountainous run along the trail paralleling the Blue Ridge Parkway. Please post to the list if you have any ideas.

6/20/03 News:

The one and only Ted Keizer AKA Cave Dog established a speed-hiking record for the 40 peaks above 6000' here in TN/NC. He hiked/ran a 300 mile course linking the peaks in under 5 days!!! His accomplishment follows a record-shattering performance at Barkley. Next up, Cave Dog looks to set a new Long Trail speed record.

A Charlotte Observer article on him can be found here. Also, here is more info from the support team.
