This page is of a more serious nature than the previous pages. Definilty more thought provoking!!! It features the rigorous, detailed and oh so exciting research I did for the Internet Essentials Journalism course. You could pick any topic under the sun!
Being the studious pupil of Public Relations that I am; I decided that the role of Public Relations in American Society would be a more than perfect research subject

PUBLIC RELATIONS AND THE ROLE IT PLAYS IN AMERICAN SOCIETY
Introduction | Keywords| Sources | Websites | Internet Mini-Essay| IME Sources
I. Introduction

The topic that I am choosing to research is the role that the public relations industry plays in American society.
I already know that a person in publc relations serves as the creator of various companies and organizations reputation
or image in society, by various forms of journalism such as newletters, brochures they are the voice of the company.
The questions that I hope to answer in my research are: How does one successfully create an image?
What is the effect that creating images have on a business?
What effect does public relations have on American society?
My audience for this research is fellow students that wonder what their future career consists of and
how it affects the world around them.

V. INTERNET MINI ESSAY
TITLE: Welcome to the next level; A look into the online gaming trend
TOPIC AREA: The growth of Online Gaming- a net trend
In Los Angeles, last week, at the video gaming industries main trade show, the Electronic Enterntainment Expo (E3),
the most popular software exectuives confirmed that onlinegaming is making a push to mainstream entertainment.
"The IDC projects that online gaming will grow nearly 50 percent each year for the next few years, with U.S. revenue
climbing from $210 million last year to $1.8 billion in 2005," said Thor Olavsrud (2). This new market for revenue has quelled
a response from almost all video game companies as to what they plan to do to compete. Microsoft Corporation has made
the most aggressive move towards online gaming by announcing that "starting this fall those owners of Microsoft's X-box
console and have DSL or cable Internet access will be able to buy a $50 online adapter that includes a headset communicator
for talking to opponents and a yaer of acess to the X-Box live service run by Microsoft"(1). Microsoft also announced that in
order to allow game publishers to focus on game creation it will offer a service taht manages, hosts, networks, secures and bills
customers on online gaming (1).
Sony and Nintendo took steps to expand onlien gaming in their particular companies. Each unveiled a plan to offer network
adapters in their particular companies. Each unvieled a plan to offer network adapters for dialup and boradband adapters,
but instead of creating a network for service, these companies will rely on the game publishers to be in chage of that particular
arean(2).
The video game market made $9.3 billion in revenues last year, more than Hollywood box office and alarmingly close to industry giants
such as the music and home video market. Investors should be wary of the new trend of linking video games and the internet because
it truly seems to be a wave of the future. "Online technology is the next revolution in video games, and it will fundamentally transform
gaming into a new form of social entertainment," said the General Manager of Microsoft X-Box (2). Merging video game players from
around the world is sure to take video game junkies world wide to the enxt level of entertainment.
