Portfolio

~Before I decided I wanted to become a Public Relations major, I experimented with a few other fields in journalism. I contemplated the idea of Photo Journalism and took and introduction to photography class offered at UNC. It was a great class in which we learned the techniques of photography: how to develop and print our own film. It was very inspirational, and although I am not pursuing the field, my portfolio is a gallery of my favorite pictures. Thanks for visiting!~

flowers with dew drops

Our first project was to discover the concept of beauty and what that meant to us. Here, I took a close up shot of a bunch of mums with drops of dew still on their petals.
One objective to the class was discovering depth perception. In this photo I focused on the gate instead of the end of the path.

As a contrast, this photo was taken to explore the depth of the pathway. The difference lies in the perception.
One assignment was to consider differences in class, gender, or economic status and photograph such. While I was home, I stumbled upon these mailboxes and found them to be very symbolic of a community of people. In contrast to the busy world of the metropolitan life, these mailboxes represented a softer existence.

Another image characterizing my concept of beauty...
Here again, beauty. I was especially interested in the leaves behind the flower.

my parents and sister

This photo was one of my professor's favorites. Taken as a project to characterize family, I was unaware of my sister's presence in the background while I was taking the picture. My professor found it extremely interesting however, that her back is turned and her image is so dark in contrast to the house behind her. At an age of exploration, symbolically, my sister turns her back on mom and dad.
This photo was yet another image taken for my concept of beauty, but I came to appreciate it more when I applied it's beauty to my life. I often find myself in webs of confusion...or perhaps I just create them....
