sins of the forefathers

I just finished revising my proposal for the IRB committee. On one level, I understand the need for a review board; on another, I don't feel dangerous enough to warrant all the controls. Illegal activity? Danger to participants? I'm not asking them to play 21 Jump Street and fraternize with the drug dealers in the high school; I just want them to reflect on the experience of becoming a teacher. Thank you to the brilliant researchers behind the Tuskegee Experiment and Stanley Milgram for establishing a legacy of mistrust for all research.
