the grotto

I've been in the new office all day and I can report that it is indeed a bit strange to work in a window-less, person-less room. I do like the idea of having my own space, though - does wonders for the psyche and god knows my psyche is going to need all the wonders it can get in the next few weeks.

I feel like I've been working at a steady pace but I didn't get to my data analysis until late afternoon - which is why I'm still on campus so late - and I can't write the conference paper without the analysis and I can't write the proposal without the analysis but I need both of them right NOW. The enveloping pall of stress is creeping toward me at a less-than-creeping pace.

  • If it makes you feel any better, they did a study at Pacific Bell where they placed their workers in windowless, clockless offices with their backs to the door. After a while, the workers would come out of their offices at about 8 o'clock at night, realizing they had worked 10-12 hour days without even knowing it....

  • Ummm, I'm not sure it does...but I suppose I should look on whatever bright side I can find in there.
