aving joined Rabenstein in 1211, Ladewig
has slowly and quietly earned the trust and admiration of most of its members,
such that when Bertoul was banished from Rabenstein in 1213 for killing
Brother Meshach (as told in the tale Babdh
the Old Crone, Act I), Sir Ladewig was chosen to become Sergeant of
the Turb over other candidates such as Alexandra the Amazon and fellow knight
Sir Waldemar. While Sir Erik the Miles remains
the mightiest warrior at the covenant, Ladewig represents the more noble
aspects of chivalry. His marriage to Tatyana (along with the birth of their
daughter, Natalia) has given him even firmer ties to Rabenstein and has
helped bring some sense of normality to the otherwise strange nature of
the place (which Ladewig is unfortunately oblivious to).

Background: Ladewig has not talked overly much about his background, but it is known that his family is a prestigious one of Imperial leanings. He joined the Benedictine Order as a child and began his training as a monk at Admont Abbey. Though he left the Order and went on to become a knight, he remained loyal to the Church and Seckau. He sees the Church and Empire as great allies and will attempt to play peacemaker in any disputes between the two.
Ladewig has two sisters, one of whom - Anna - Rabenstein met on their last expedition to Frauenberg. He is dedicated to his wife Tatyana and their newborn daughter, as he is to his duties as Sergeant of the Turb. He attempts to be even-handed where the men are concerned and to lead by example. His closest friend at the covenant is undoubtedly Sir Waldemar. Although their is some competition between the two rittern, it is due to the devotion to chivalrous ideals and dutiful notions which they both share.
