Socii (the Covenant Turb)

Rabenstein Covenant embraces a relatively new tradition instigated by Hermetic Covenants of Lombardy and Sicily, in which their soldiers and military guards are granted the title Socius. This translates roughly as 'ally', or 'comrade', and seems far less demeaning than the traditional terminology of 'grog'. The socii are led by a military sergeant (preferably a Ritter), who is in turn commanded by the captain (titled Miles and pronounced mee-lays), whose job is to coordinate requests from the Council of Magi involving deployment of any socius on an expedition.

Currently, there are no individual custos for the Magi of Rabenstein (although Lazslo and Matthias frequently defend Julian and Merento), so individual socii must be annointed as such according to necessity. Further, four socii are elected for sentry duty each night to patrol the Covenant grounds. The active garrison is presented here according to their level of ability, followed by a description of the current Miles, Sergeant, and Marshal of Fröhnleiten:

*Note - Natn refers to the nationality of the socius, abbreviated Gr (German), St (Steiermark/local), A (Almohadan), Bo (Bohemian), Br (Brabancon), Gk (Greek), Ir (Irish), It (Italian), Kv (Kievan), Mg (Magyar), No (Norse), Nv (Novgorodian), Po (Polish), Pr (Provençe)

The Socii of Rabenstein

Quality

These socii are the best warriors the Covenant can provide, though some may be lacking in the more desirable qualities of courtly grace, honor, and strategy.

Other Inhabitants

These residents of Rabenstein are either noncombatants, not under the jurisdiction of the Magi, or both, and thus do not even take up sentry duty except in extraordinary circumstances. They are included here for the sake of completeness.
