This
is my favorite picture of Roman. It captures his essence - the noble
old gentleman as we knew him. We don't know for sure where Roman raced,
or what he was like when he was younger, so to us he was and will
always be the calm, wise elder statesman.
We
were only supposed to be a foster home for him. He was turned into
the pound at Newport News, Virginia in the fall of 1994 and the shelter
employees called the greyhound adoption group we volunteer for. In
a non-racing state, having a greyhound show up on your doorstep is
a pretty unusual thing. And very, very lucky for us. He came, he saw,
he conquered our hearts. |
