Quilting

No one in my family ever quilted - much to my dismay! I am a native West Virginian and grew up surrounded by quilts. My mother sewed and taught me how to sew - the foundation for my quilting. My youngest sister  - Amanda - is a great quilter and if you go to her website you can see how productive and creative she is.  Quilting is an occupation with family and social ties but also with greater cultural meaning for me. I'll add pictures of some of my quilts - finished and in process.

This picture is from "Quilt Day" at Alice Anne Glasgow's school. She attends Crestline Elementary School in Hartselle, Alabama.  Alice Anne and her quilt are right in the middle of the picture - she has on a turquoise T-Shirt and is holding the Split Rail quilt I made for her when she was a baby! Alice Anne's mom, Anne,  was my student and is my much loved but far away friend.  A log cabin quilt started and finished by me!!

I belong to a quilting group comprised mostly of OT's - hence the name - OT Quilters. We get together irregularly although we try for once a month. Almost two years ago we agreed to do a group project. We bought a poster of Van Gogh's Irises and split the poser into 6 sections. Six of each took a split and have reproduced our part of the poster in fabric using our choice of technique. We have 4 of the 6 splits completed and hope to auction or sell the finished product and donate the proceeds to Threshold - a community mental heath program in Durham NC.  This is my split on the left and the poster on the right. It took me forever as I taught myself a new technique of picture piecing. Soon to come - my current work -  scrap quilt with columns of nine patches.
