Math 233 (Multivariable Calculus) Fall 2012, UNC-Chapel Hill

    Syllabus :


    The syllabus below is suggestive, our goal would be to cover chapter 12 to 16 of the above textbook. So to be finally be in a position to learn three well known theorems of the multivariable calculus i.e., Green's Theorem, Stokes' Theorem, and the Divergence Theorem.
    1. Chapter 12 Sections 1- 5 and omitting section 6.
    2. Chapter 13 Sections 1-3, Section 4 covering velocity and acceleration.
    3. Chapter 14 Sections 1-7 and 8*.
    4. Chapter 15 Sections 1-4. Sections 5-9*.
    5. Chapter 16 Sections 1-5. Sections 6-9*.
    * indicates sections which might be treated lightly.

    Grades :


    1. Three class in Exam (50 min long) of 15 % each i.e., 45 % of the total grades.
    2. Homework will account for 15% of the total grades.
    3. Final exam (3 hour long) would account for the remaining 40 %.

    Exam Schedule :


    1. First class in Exam : 26 September 2012.
    2. Second class in Exam : 22 October 2012.
    3. Third Class in Exam : 14 November 2012.
    4. Final Exam : 8 December 2012, 8-11 AM

    Homework :


    Homework will be given after each class (five to ten problems). All homework will be due one week after it is assigned unless otherwise specified. All homework is graded in WebAssign http://www.webassign.net . Some new books come bundled with a code for WebAssign access; students have paid for that code by buying the "bundled" text. Those without such books will have to buy WebAssign access separately. Those on financial aid must buy either the text-bundled-with-WA-access or another version of the text and WebAssign access from the UNC Student Stores. WebAssign offers e-book access for the semester together with the necessary WebAssign access for completing the assignments online. The WebAssign class key for this section is unc 9952 4007 .

But it is considered useful, as it would not only help in improving the understanding of some of the concepts but as well teach a very useful skill.
