My research focuses on knowledge organization and representation methods and tools applied to information systems, digital libraries in particular. My current research involves digital cultural heritage content and its use in educational settings. For my dissertation I am looking at the impact of a history-domain ontology on the information-seeking process of educators while searching for primary source materials. The study will use a new collection of learning objects developed for the UNC University Library's digital library.

Within the GovStat Project I investigated issues related to the development of an ontology for facilitating access and understanding of US government statistical data. Metadata development is another area I have been involved in with the GovStat Project with an emphasis on the design of a metadata schema to support information discovery and data integration across Federal statistical agencies.
