Course Overview & Policy

Class meetings will be a combination of lecture, discussion and student presentations. Students will be expected to attend class prepared to discuss relevant topics and engage in planned activities. Students also will be required to complete two projects, each of which will involve a component of research and writing.

In-Class Participation Assignments: There are 10 assignments that will provide part of the basis for in-class discussion. These assignments will be posted at least one week in advance. The assignments should be emailed to the instructor by 8:00 pm on the day before the class meeting and students must be prepared to discuss their contribution in class that day. Assignments will be graded on a credit/no-credit basis. Each student is responsible for completing 8 of the 10 assignments.

Email with assignments should include a subject line indicating the student's name and the assignment number (e.g., John Smith - Assignment 1). The first line of the email should also list the students name.

Papers: There will be two, brief research papers that apply concepts reviewed in class to a small number of research articles (1-5). The papers should be in the range of 5-10 double-spaced pages. They may cover the article that the student previously presented to the class, but that is not a requirement.
