2008 CTC Hands-on Session
Web Design for Mobile Devices
As web-enabled mobile devices become increasingly popular, we should probably be asking ourselves "Are our websites accessible?" It can be difficult enough to configure our sites for all the different browsers on desktop computers, but what do we do to make our sites accessible from mobile browsers? In this hands-on session we will tackle these questions and explore the challenges we face in this relatively new world of web access.
Note:
I will attempt to split this session. The first half or quarter will cover mobile web related ISSUES and should not last more than 15 or 30 minutes. This will allow those who wish to attend other afternoon sessions to do so. Code from this session will be available online regardless. If you plan to hold on through the entire session we will be spending the second half of the session having discussions and playing with code on our AFS space.

The samples for this session are written in PHP, so there will be no .NET development here today (...and a great hush went over the crowd). This is because AFS (where we will be playing does not support .NET and I know little about it myself).

Other Retreat sessions starting at 2:45pm in the Student Union are:

  • IT Infrastructure and Services for the University Library (3203 Union)
  • Campus Research Computing and Cyberinfrastructure (3205 Union)
  • Handheld Device Roundtable (3206 Union)
  • CMS Roundtable (3209 Union)
