The Most deadly Piedmont crash in North Carolina Occurred July 19, 1967 near Hendersonville.  The B727, Piedmont Flight 22 (N68650) and a Cessna 310 collided midair.  Multiple sources validate the assertion that the Cessna made a deviation from an "IFR Clearance" and collided with the 727, bringing both aircraft to the ground and killing all on board both aircraft (82).  In recent years, an appeal was made to the NTSB to reconsider their findings, however the original conclusion was upheld by the NTSB.
