Research in the Cory Lab focuses on the intersection of the water and carbon cycles. Specifically, we  investigate dissolved organic matter (DOM), which is a ubiquitous and reactive component of all water on Earth. Broadly speaking, we address the role of DOM as a key intermediate in a changing global carbon cycle.

We also explore the role of DOM in aquatic biogeochemical processes that determine water quality.  We are interested in how DOM  mediates the environmental impact of bio-, organic, and inorganic contaminants in natural and managed waters.

Students interested in studying environmental issues from a chemistry perspective who also seek a balance of laboratory and field work are particularly encouraged to contact me with a CV and statement of interest.
